  Boys curious about the world ... The contrast stands out to me when I see my boys' response to focusing on a phone or screen versus when I catch them peering out the window at the natural world. It struck me how much more their souls appear to be immersed and attuned to what they are seeing when they are pondering all the beauty of God's creation. I try to have them start to recognize the difference by asking them how they feel after 20 minutes of gaming as opposed to how they feel after they have taken the time to watch rabbits chewing on the plants, squirrels digging for fallen acorns, and chipmunks peering their heads out from between the rock wall of our garden.

"You need endurance ... (Heb. 10:36)

  "You need endurance     to do the will of God   And recieve     what He has promised."                         - Hebrews 10:36 Endurance: "the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process without giving way. (Oxford Dictionary)" The passage from Hebrew reminds me that having faith does not mean that "I believe, therefore, all goes well for me."   Faith gives us hope that resurrection follows suffering and death.   The attitude I must have is: "I believe in the Resurrection, therefore, I have hope which gives me strength to endure my suffering and do the will of God even when it's difficult." Everyone has sufferings and the temptation is always to find ways to move around them or find a way to pacify or numb them.  Hebrews reminds me today that I need to endure and move through , to be strong in hope. Holy Thursday

HOLY THURSDAY I have always known this day as 'Holy Thursday' and wondered why some called the day 'Maundy Thursday'.   I found out that the root of this tradition comes because it was on this day that Christ gave his 'mandatum' (mandate) to follow his example by going out to wash the feet of others. It was also the day he gave the mandate: 'Do this in remembrance of me.'  A command to celebrate the agape meal, the meal of love that he established and wanted the community to continue so that they could continue to recieve and become for the world the 'Body of Christ.' It is suitable today, then, to consider how each of these'mandatums' cannot be understood without the other: 1. We must continue to celebrate and to recieved the Eucharist as Christ requested (and which we know the earliest Church immediately began to do each day of the Resurrection) [1 Cor. 11:23-26] 2.  We must go out to 'wash the feet' of our brothers and sis...
